A Lifelong Passion: My Journey into Photography

I got my first camera at the age of seven, and I have been taking pictures since then. I first learned photography from my maternal grandfather, who was a professional photographer. At the age of 13, I got my first adjustable camera, which let me adjust the settings to what the scene called for and not rely on the camera to make those decisions. I photographed my first wedding at the age of 15.

Formal Training and Early Career

In 1981, I moved my family to the Dallas, Texas area to attend an institute that specialized in professional photography. I completed that course and graduated at the top of my class. My first full-time professional job was in Dallas, Texas, working for a firm specializing in executive portraiture.

Building a Versatile Portfolio: From Portraits to Events

I gained a lot of experience at that firm. I also worked for a portrait studio in the Dallas area before moving back to Houston. In the Houston area, I worked for a studio that specialized in family portraits, high school senior portraits, and school and sports photography. I worked there for 11 years.

In 1996, I began working for Harris County, the local government of the Houston area, as a photographer and videographer. I worked there photographing commissioner portraits, events, and special projects.
